The 9/11 National Memorial Trail is a long-distance, multi-use route designed to connect the three official national 9/11 memorial sites: the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City, the Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon Memorial in the Washington, D.C., area. The alliance has been working to develop and promote the trail as a way to link the three sites and honor those affected by the September 11, 2001 attacks.
At its June 9 meeting, Columbia Borough Council formalized an agreement with the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance, a nonprofit organization, allowing the group to install and maintain wayfinding signs for the trail in Columbia.
The alliance covers all costs associated with installing and maintaining the signage, meaning the arrangement comes at no expense to the borough.
