As shown in the photos below, painters were busy this week applying several coats of brilliant red paint to the exterior of the furniture store at 417 Locust Street, located in the heart of Columbia’s historic district. The last two photos show the most recent stage of the project. When painting is finished, the store should be strikingly visible, far and wide, hither and yon. Adjacent buildings will pale in comparison.

Is this store affiliated with infamous ” Dante Lebron” from the past Venues? First, the signs are not HARB approved being in Columbia's Historic District. If I am correct they can have a temporary sign, and so many days to get signage approved by HARB. This rests totally on the Codes Department when doing an occupancy permit on the property. Secondly, where is the Borough and the SVCC on building a true downtown business district. The Chamber has done nothing for the businesses in town.Every SVCC event has retail and no focus on the businesses that are here all week. The the Borough hires a consultant for $5,500 per month and have seen nothing in change. The Market House is stagnant, businesses choose to open only on the busiest days and the streets are bare at night.They should change legislation for past residents to come back and run this town the right way. No agenda!

Is this part of the new streetscape plan that the taxpayers are footing the bill for?

Why were they allowed to paint it that color did they have a permit to paint luck sure would like to know

I don't think there is a permit required to paint. I agree the color is rather in poor taste but it's the owners decision.The Consultant we pay needs to just go, it's a waste of money.

Mt Joy has a wonderful street scape program. They do not allow temporary banners that make the business look “Fly by night.” All new signage should be approved by council. One step forward…three steps back.
