UPDATE: Sometime this afternoon – without warning – a stop sign was placed – or rather, replaced – on Route 441 South at the intersection with Locust Street. Originally, there was a stop sign at this location, but it was removed when the Route 441 bypass was opened last week. (Columbia Spy reported on it HERE.) Now, this “new” stop sign has appeared there.
Please note: There is no stop sign on Route 441 North at Locust Street, but the one at the bottom of Locust is still there.
So, to be clear: There are two stop signs at the intersection of Route 441 and Locust – one on 441 South and one at the bottom of Locust.
A few other issues: The “new” stop sign on 441 South is merely sand-bagged in place. Also, there’s no Stop Ahead sign on the road to alert drivers of the stop sign itself. There’s no flasher on the sign. In short, there’s nothing to warn drivers that a stop sign has been placed there.
As we said previously, proceed with caution at this intersection. If this re-appearing stop sign is any indication, there’s no telling what might pop up – or disappear – next.

Just read this, I went through here twice today and there was not a stop sign. When was it replaced? I was trying to adjust to the new intersection and it has changed already. CONFUSION!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does'nt seem like the truck traffic through columbia has decreased that much. See alot of truck traffic through downtown, yet. Also, anybody know why there is 441 detour signs along rt.30 in the lancaster area, east n west?

omg….why doesn't everyone just settle down a bit. It's a brand new road and intersection that will have some bugs to work out. Surely there must be a more pressing issue that can occupy your time. I don't know, maybe you's that are so good at pointimg out every small glitch and flaw should consider calling PennDOT, Norfolk Southern or Kinsley and applying for a job seeing as how they are doing it completely wrong.

I believe the truck detour is being caused by something in Dauphin County as the signs appear along Route 283 before Route 743. what I find odd about this is at the end of the south detour at Route 30 and Route 441, the signs direct trucks to make a left turn onto N. Third Street instead of pointing straight to the new Route 441 south.

Its not so much the bugs that need worked out, these trucks are flying on Front St.Accident waiting to happen. And I don't want my family or anyone else's to get hurt.

Yes, there certainly are other pressing issues and they are being looked into as well. You just sit back and continue to eat what the powers that be dish out. Don't question “authority”, they ALWAYS know what is best for everyone.

Very well understood. However, there is a quite a difference between posing questions to authorities in the interest of safety or knowledge gathering and accusing, beleaguering, ridiculing authorities, the latter of what is mostly done on this site.

Some estimates say it took 500 years to build Rome. Let's hope it doesn't take that long to work out the bugs on this road project. Otherwise, it will take until 2515 AD, well past the second alien invasion, the third robot uprising, and the zombie apocalypse.

No one needs to ridicule authority here (on this site), all they need to do is sit in on a council meeting and they can see it first hand.
