Mother of man killed at former Club Twenty3 sues owners, security firm in wrongful death suit | Local News | lancasteronline.com

The mother of a Mississippi man killed at the now-closed Club Twenty3 nightclub in Manheim Township two years ago is suing its former owners and its security company over his death.

Jatavis Devonte Scott, 25, was shot in the club’s parking lot March 19, 2022, after a fight broke out inside. He died during surgery.

On Feb. 1, a Lancaster County jury convicted Tyler Wilson, 30, of Columbia, of third-degree murder and related offenses. His sentencing is scheduled for May 28.

The wrongful death and negligence suit, filed Monday in Lancaster County Court, claims the club failed to keep Scott safe by allowing Wilson there and serving him, even though he had a history of being drunk and fighting.

[LNP | LancasterOnline] Moms for Liberty member gets permit for prayer rally to be held outside Lancaster Library during planned ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’

An LGBTQ+ rights group and a local member of the parental rights group Moms for Liberty plan to hold gatherings on Saturday outside the Lancaster Public Library after obtaining permits from the city.

The dueling rallies are over a “Drag Queen Story Hour” event for children scheduled at the library that afternoon. Interest in the event has surged after Republican county commissioners criticized it. So has opposition, with about 400 signatures on an online petition that calls on the library to cancel the event.

Local LGBTQ+ group Lancaster Pride obtained an event permit for Ewell Plaza, which is directly outside the library, according to Lancaster City spokeswoman Amber Strazzo Righter. The group hopes to provide a “peaceful, loving, supportive presence” separating protesters from families going to the library, it said online.

A separate permit was granted to Lucy Gillichbauer, a member of Lancaster County’s Moms for Liberty chapter, for a gathering at Binns Park, across North Queen Street from Ewell Plaza, Strazzo Righter said.
