VEHICLE THEFT – AVENUE H AND NORTH THIRD STREET | Columbia Borough Police Department

On 11/8/20 at approximately 4:32am the Columbia Borough Police Department was dispatched to the 200 block of Locust Street for a report of a vehicle theft.  Upon arrival the officer spoke with the victim who explained that she is a newspaper delivery person and that she was delivering newspapers to a business in the area of Avenue H and North 3rd Street.  She said that she parked her vehicle, a red 2020 Kia Sportage, in Avenue H at North 3rd Street and ran the newspapers into the business.  While she was in the business she saw her interior cabin lights come on and a short stocky black male with dreadlocks get into the drivers seat.  The male then drove the vehicle West in the 200 block of Avenue H toward North 2nd Street.  The victim left her wallet which contained her driver's license, credit cards, debit cards, assorted papers, a brand new three bowl crock pot (valued at $65-$70) and several LCP Newspapers in the vehicle.

VANDALISM TO BUILDING – 300 BLOCK OF NORTH 3RD STREET | Columbia Borough Police Department

1/6/21 at approximately 12:02pm the Columbia Borough Police Department received a report of vandalism to a house in the 300 block of North 3rd Street.  The victim stated that someone threw landscaping rocks at his house overnight and caused damage to his new siding.  He also stated that someone had thrown eggs at his property about two weeks ago.  Anyone with information regarding vandalism to homes in the 300 block of North 3rd Street is encouraged to contact the Columbia Borough Police Department at 717-684-7735 or by texting LANCS to 847411. Columbia Borough school board pushes ahead with new administrative goals for 2020-21

The school board committed to a set of goals in July that address the district’s various weaknesses, needs and concerns in the current school year. To improve the overall academic experience, district administrators will draft instructional frameworks to facilitate an effective, standards-aligned curriculum; introduce surveys and culturally inclusive programming to increase community involvement; develop pathways for graduation to ensure (student) success after high school; and establish educational equity for students and staff members alike, according to a statement from the board.

Armed Man Arrested, Charged after Hours-Long Standoff at West Hempfield Township Home | Lancaster County District Attorney's Office

An armed West Hempfield Township man was arrested Sunday night after an hours-long standoff at his home. Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) took 49-year-old Shawn Stryker into custody about 9:15 p.m., about 10 hours after police were initially called to the 500 block of Goldfinch Drive. 
During the standoff, a SERT officer fired a shot when Stryker exited the home with a rifle drawn and aimed at police. Soon after, Stryker fired two shots while inside his home.
