11-11-11 Club holds banquet and memorial service to commemorate Veterans Day

The 11-11-11 Club hosted its annual banquet and memorial service at the VFW Red Rose Memorial Post #2435 on Saturday, November 11, to commemorate Veterans Day.

Dozens attended to pay tribute and listen to remarks by guest speaker Lieutenant General Dennis L. Benchoff.  Ed Wickenheiser and Reverends Thomas Grubbs and Fred Thomas also spoke.  The Pledge of Allegiance Assembly was led by Robert A. Herman, Jr., and dinner was served by the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post #2435.

Kevin Kraft opened the ceremony by ringing a bell at 11 a.m., accompanied by a rifle salute outside the building.

Semper Fi 5K Run – Routes and Road Closures

Saturday, November 11, 2017 – 7:30am to 9:00am

Columbia Borough Police have announced road closures in conjunction with the Semper Fi 5k Run on Saturday, November 11, 2017. 

Road closures will start at 7:30 am and will be as follows: Kinderhook Road at Columbia High School; Ironville Pike between Kinderhook Road and Spruce Street; Spruce Street between 11th and 12th Streets; North 11th Street between Spruce and Chestnut Streets; North Chestnut Street between 11th and 8th Streets; North 8th Street between Chestnut and Walnut Streets; Walnut Street between 8th and 12th Streets; 12th Street between Walnut and Chestnut Streets; Chestnut Street between 12th and 13th Streets; North 14th Street to Luther Lane; Luther Lane to Locust Street; and Locust Street from Luther Lane to North Front Street. 
All Streets are expected to be reopened by 9:00 am or earlier as the race progresses and as the last runners go by the Street will be reopened.

Columbia nursing home on list of health inspection reports for nursing homes in Lancaster County

Susquehanna Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 745 Chiques Hill Road, Columbia: Complaint inspections March 1 and April 13; two minimal harm deficiencies. Federal regulators imposed a payment denial on March 1.

Part of horror film was shot in Columbia basement

The film was shot all over Lancaster, including a filthy and bleak basement in a 120-year-old house in Columbia, which serves as the mother and son’s bomb shelter.
