About Town

Recent pics about town . . .

Snowflakes now line Locust. They’re the new, smaller ones.
 At St. John’s Lutheran.
Was it vandalism?

 Night flier

 There’s somethin’ happenin’ here.
What it is ain’t exactly clear.

 One of those rocks.

 “Gangsta” graffiti

Empty cigarette cartons lining the 300 block of Avenue G

 Many cigarette cartons

 Many, many cigarette cartons

And more cigarette cartons – all behind the Chestnut Street Turkey Hill

A few different views of “The Bridge”…

Here’s a fence across Locust Street (extended).

 Ghost signs

 Bird brains.
One seems to be landing sideways.

 Line-up

 There’s another rock.

Newly installed “security fence” along Heritage Drive.
Trees will be planted along here soon.

 The proverbial Golden Calf

Mighty tight

 Even tighter

 Abandoned

 Time for a chat

Lair of the hidden gas cans in Avenue H…
Could these be the ones used to light the trashcan the other week?

  1. What did they do with the lights they had on the poles last Christmas we only had them three years what a waste of money they were just fine

  2. On Locust Street, the light poles were replaced with small ones. The new poles cannot accommodate the size of the old snow flakes. Thus, smaller snow flakes were purchased and now can hold the new snow flakes.

  3. Columbia is just full of dirty people that litter and behave badly. No one can dispute this, it is the truth.Litter is all over this town constantly and yet I heard that the man collecting glass and trash along the railroad was fined for picking it up! How ass backwards is this?Throw trash down and let dog poop behind, no citations or fines…Collect trash and get fined!! Unreal.Maybe this town earned the reputation it has.

  4. Why not discuss the wonderful aspects of Columbia? The manner in which you write about Columbia is very sad. Your negative words just perpetuate the many terrible misconceptions about Columbia. Furthermore, you insult a great many people who live here in Columbia, who maintain their homes with cleanliness and pride. The big majority of borough citizens love Columbia and speak well of it. It’s words like yours that hurt our town.

  6. Your words indeed hurt this town, because you focus only on the negatives. Don’t you have one positive thing to write about Columbia? If you despise this town so much, why are you living here? No one is forcing you to stay. Life is a choice. You could move, or stay here and continue to complain, or stay here and volunteer to improve the quality of life issues in Columbia.

  10. in the past 10 years, how many “littering fines” have been issued ? not enough to convince anyone that the law really even exists ! I'm going to guess, zero

  11. He was probably fined because someone was scared of his piles of broken glass, terrified that demons were at work. Just a man passing time during a long, lonely day. We should be more afraid of anyone interpreting a pile of glass as some sort of demonic activity. That's what's really crazy.
