How's Ricki the bear doing?

Ricki was moved in February 2015 after living most of her life at Jim Mack’s Ice Cream in Hellam Township. The impetus for the move was a petition and a public-nuisance civil suit, filed by several local residents, who said Ricki was not receiving proper care.
The bear drew national attention, including comedian-actor Ricky Gervais

Trash truck overturns on Route 30

Cleanup is currently underway in the westbound lane of Route 30 for an overturned tractor-trailer carrying trash. The vehicle overturned when it failed to negotiate a turn from the on-ramp onto Route 30 from Route 441. The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. The trailer spilled trash onto the road and snarled traffic. Fire police have detoured traffic onto Route 462 at the Prospect Road exit.

Paint on, Paint over, Paint needed

It’s amazing what paint can do. It can beautify. It can “uglify.” It can conceal. Here are a few examples:

Painting was done recently to resurrect this ghost sign at Bootleg Antiques on Bridge Street. The building was apparently the site of Superior Laundry Machinery. A small bit of information can be found HERE. Apparently, it was part of the Columbia Manufacturing Company, info on which is HERE.

Meanwhile, under the Wrights Ferry (Route 30) Bridge, the multi-paneled graffiti exhibit is being painted over, as shown here and below. It’s just as well, since there’s no evidence of a budding Keith Haring or Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Graffiti on the pillars has also been painted over to eliminate the “uglification” factor.
On the wall leading to the trail, as well.

Finally, this ghost sign at North Second and Bridge could stand to be revived. It reads: “Myers Machine Tool Corporation”
A few tidbits about the company can be found HERE.
