At its November 24 Meeting of the Whole, Columbia Borough Council unanimously approved waiving the dumpster permit fee and parking fees for Columbia Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) to remove unwanted materials from Hotel Locust and Hotel Columbia. During discussion preceding the vote, Council said CEDC wanted to place a dumpster at the location on the 300 block of Locust Street for approximately a week. However, two large dumpsters appeared today, the first day of the operation. As promised, items were being removed and thrown into the dumpsters, which currently block three metered parking spaces and part of a loading zone. As can be seen in the last photograph on this post, ample space is available in the rear of the property, but various logistical concerns make access less convenient.

At least two residents objected to the dumpster being placed on locust street during the holiday season. Apparently their voices were not heard.

Wait, our elected officials and Borough employees listen to their citizenry?REALLY?

Probably around the same time the borough begins to have current information posted at the borough Website. Probably around the same time it begins to communicate openly with citizens, visitors and guests by using social media and local media outlets. Were the borough offices open or closed on the day after Thanksgiving? There was no mention at the borough website. Oh, yeah, it'd be great if the police department had current and open communication with the world with the “so-often promised posts” at its facebook page.When will that be … somewhere around the 12th of never.

I'm partially to blame for continuing to view this page and Columbia News and Views but all you guys do is complain about Columbia and it's obnoxious to read everyday. I'm not arguing that there are issues with the town and people in charge but how about looking at the positives going on in town a little more. You act like the people in charge are not trying to improve our little town. There are a lot of good things going on right now in Columbia. Let's try and focus on that stuff. The dumpsters on Locust Street during the holiday season are an eyesore but so is the building that they are trying to clean up.

Examples of positive stories I've read recently on this site:The gingerbread house story, model railroad at Columbia Historic Society, the beautiful sunset photo at Toll Booth, Christmas decorations in storefronts.Some people cannot read!

Maybe if you want Cole to write more positives on a town he can start writing about Lanc City, Lititz, My Joy, or many other up & coming communities in Lanc Co. These municipalities have people in positions who truly are trying to help their communities. Not what can I get for me like most in authority in this town

People should be more concerned about the zoning board desicion tonight than abouth these two dumpsters. They are going to be taken away, but the building on S 13th St might be here to stay.

They are temporary dumpsters. It show progress. they are not going to be there forever or even long term. I must come to the conclusion that you do not go further than Columbia, otherwise you would see dumpsters at construction projects everywhere. I'm a licensed PAcontractor and have utilized streets for dumpsters for projects all the time. It is a common construction practice. It's TEMPORARY, cost effective and efficient. If you were to step up and volunteer to help clean out that building and had to hand carry everything out the back, i am most sure you would be the FIRST person complaining that “this is stupid, the Boro should allow us to put a dumpster out front”. Once again, some people all they do is complain.This site is agreat place to find information but also to object views. Most however seem to always be negative. I agree with this poster that states people should start to look at the small things that are definitely shaping up in town. It doesn't happen overnight, takes time. It has to start somewhere and it has. If the new found resurgence continues, in a few more years, Columbia's downtown will again be a wonderful place like in the past….please keep up the good work. Don't let naysayers deter you.

Hello people- do you know how long that dumpster has been” temporarily ” parked on Manor St a block away from the Fire Hall and right beside an alley where you cant see if anyone is pulling out??? It has been at least 4 months. No one does anything about it- No one says anything….

Do you know how long some condemned signs are on properties in this town. So long that they rot off the building. This deffinitely doesn't happen in Lanc City.
