Takedown!

At the beginning of the “Feet in the Street” celebration on Friday, a group of youths –  skateboarders and others – showed up in Locust Street Park with apparent intent to disrupt. After one of them “accidentally on purpose” fell off his skateboard, his associates banged him on the head with their “boards” – cracking the motorcycle helmet he was wearing – and kicked him in the face shield, after which he turned over and began thrusting lewdly on the sidewalk. As his companions dispersed toward Locust Street, running past children drawing on the blacktop with chalk, said helmet wearer rolled and sprawled on the grass before running away.
Columbia Borough Police officers soon arrived and dispersed the youths, except for one who became defiant and allegedly threatened officers. After a brief struggle, he was handcuffed and removed, and the proceedings continued without further interruption.

  2. The police response to this “disorder” was absolutely in order. My kids sure weren't perfect, but never would they have acted in such a disrespectful manner toward adults let alone the cops. This is a gang of disruptive punks. They were intimidating the people attending the community function. This is not “scumbia”. We are proud of Columbia and I hope that the police will continue to do their duty when gangs are disruptive, disrespectful, and foul. Too bad the parents don't take care of it at home, instead they allow it to spill into the streets where it disturbs everyone else. It's a scary world when you think these gangs will be tomorrow's workforce. No wonder America is falling to third world status.

  6. I agree. It's not the school district's fault. Parents aren't disciplining their children. They're letting them run free, unsupervised. I would bet most of the kids causing trouble come from dysfunctional homes.
