Fanfare for the Common Man

This is one of several patriotic fanfares written during World War II.

I remember reading an interview with Aaron Copland in which he noted that other composers were writing fanfares to honor generals and admirals, but he wrote this for the ordinary soldiers, since they were the ones doing the actual fighting.

What I Saw – Saturday, June 2, 2012 – Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign

On Saturday, I took a walk around town, armed only with a smartphone and a cheap point & shoot.

Borough workers installed the docks at River Park . . .
(Coincidentally, I recently received a comment regarding the docks, under the May 9 post HERE.)

I also saw this honeybee at the park.

They seem to be making a comeback.

It was a long weekend and a good one for taking photographs. Lots of happenings around town – most of them festive or otherwise upbeat, a few near-tragic. I took several hundred shots over the last couple of days and posted what I think are the best ones.

3-Vehicle Crash; Two Slam Into House

Three vehicles collided yesterday at Ninth and Locust Streets just before noon. Two of the vehicles, a red Toyota and a black Dodge van then slammed into the front brick porch wall at 852 Locust Street. Several people were treated for injuries.

Six People Hospitalized in Two-Vehicle Crash

On Saturday afternoon, six people were hospitalized after a two-car collision on North Third Street. Emergency personnel removed the roof of a car to free one of the victims.
